The weekly student teacher training programme covers all aspects
of the Latin American Student teacher syllabus for the United
Kingdom Alliance (UKA). It will provide you with the knowledge
and practical skills to teach dance classes. The course runs for
a period of up to 24 weeks and is led by Ken Akrill, the author
of the UKA Latin American and Ballroom technique book and
technical advisor of the course syllabus in both Ballroom and
Latin American, supported by Jill Roberts - the Principal of
Dance Dynamic.
Full supporting course materials will be
provided. The dances covered on this course are the Cha cha cha,
Rumba, Jive, Samba and Paso Doble.
At the end of the course you will have sufficient technical
knowledge of each of the figures in the syllabus and will be
able to dance them, give a brief description and know their
timing. You will be given teaching points for each figure, have
an awareness of precedes and follows and how to link them into
simple routines. You will also be given an additional option at
the end of the course to have ongoing support with setting up
classes and teaching Latin American.
Applications for course entry are made by
completing the attached application form and returning to Jill
Roberts either via
E-mail or by post to
22 Cornwall Street, Cottingham, HU16 4NB, this will then be
followed by a short interview.
It is expected that applicants will have some experience in dance but not necessarily in Latin American. We will then confirm the start date of the next course.
