Get ready for Dance Dynamics latest fun Class - the French Can Can course, as an additional option you can also purchase the can can costume and attire.
The Can Can is a physically demanding music hall dance, performed by a chorus line of female dancers who wear costumes with long skirts, petticoats, and black stockings, harking back to the fashions of the 1890s. The main features of the dance are the lifting up and manipulation of the skirts, with high kicking and suggestive, provocative body movements.
Can-Can lessons are a great fitness activity and great fun. At an additional cost, you will also have the option of the purchase of your very own brand new full can can attire of a gorgeous colourful can-can skirt, stockings, garter, frilly knickers and a head piece so you will feel and look the part from the start.
You will learn a variety of basic moves, tricks and routines that will come together in a full chorus line performance at the end of the course. The activity is energetic, fun and suitable for everyone. Can can was originally a rowdy, raucous dance, so we are encouraged to be as loud as possible.

Classes start with a ballet style warm up specially modified for can can dancing to ensure all muscles are stretched. You will then be taught how to swish your skirt, and petticoat manipulation. The class will then move on to basic movements across the room such as skipping, running and then progress into traditional straightforward can can kicks and poses to finish, you will be taught a short, simple routine to incorporate all of the movements.
Following a similar warm up, classes start with a review of the previous week and then follow on with more advanced moves to progress across the room. Technique on kicks in the air will be a focus. Progression of the kicks will be made which include more advanced kicks and poses and will include the art of flirting. To finish off, a short routine will be taught to incorporate all of the movements and poses.
Starting with the same warm as in week 2 with a few more leg stretching exercises, we will then briefly study the music and listen to extracts from old-fashioned music hall tunes. More advanced moves will be taught such as circular kicks and the famous ronde de jambe’ (rotating of lower part of leg ) and ‘porte d’armes’ (holding one foot in air with leg straight and tuning on opposite foot clockwise). The cart wheel will also be explored and hand stand as an option for the more adventurous. This session will finish off with a routine to incorporate all of the movements taught in this session and previous weeks.
Warm up will progress from week 3 and will work on flexibility in all of the muscles. There will be more high kicks, with as much knicker-flashing as you can muster. A routine will be taught to incorporate all of the above and dancing in lines, criss-crossing in front of each other and patterns. All will be accompanied with much skipping, more skirt-swishing and noisy shrilling sounds to finish with a fabulous group performance routine ready to display. This will end with the final cymbals clash turning away from the invisible audience to flash bottoms and dropping to the floor ruffling skirts.
