Jill Roberts – Principal
Jill Roberts is the founder of Dance Dynamic which was formed in 2007. Jill has been teaching dance for over 29 years and has a vast knowledge and experience in the dance field in a wide variety of styles. She started her dance career dancing professionally abroad and then in the UK starting as a dance duo and then a 4 piece dance group performing to a wide variety of audiences supporting artists such as Les Denis, Joe Longthorne, Bernard Manning to name just a few. In 1988 she started teaching street at Edinburgh Street Community Centre where the children regularly entered disco dance competitions. This progressed into the children entering freestyle completions, and in 1993 she launched a very successful competitive freestlyle dance school with Ken Akrill which was named ‘Akrill and Roberts Dance Academy’ which she ran for over a further 8 years.
Her dance training started at the age of 3 with the Myers Hutchinson Stage School where she studied, ballet, tap and modern where she stayed for 18 years. She was the involved in Northern Theatre company where she played roles in stage musical such as West Side Story, Hello Dolly and Perchance to Dream. She then trained in Latin American and Ballroom with Ken Akrill who is the author of a number of Ballroom and Latin American technical books. She became a qualified dance teacher In Latin American and Freestyle with the United Kingdom Alliance Dance and Drama (UKA) and International Dance Teachers Association (IDTA). As well as this she holds the level 2 ‘Exercise to Music’ qualification, pole fitness qualification, Zumba and Power chiyoga certification and still continues to study. She has also taught numerous famous people including Abi Titmuss. whilst she was playing at Hull truck Theatre.
